Welcome to Barkly Highway State School

Barkly Highway State School is located in the remote North West Queensland city of Mount Isa. The school is situated in Gulf Country, on the land of the Kalkadoon people. The staff of Barkly Highway State School have provided a quality education to children of Mount Isa since 1959.

Barkly Highway is a primary school educating from Prep through to Year 6. Our current student population of the primary school is approximately 440 students. Our quality teaching and support staff work together to provide an environment with high expectations for all students. An Early Childhood Developmental Program for children from birth to pre-prep is also located at Barkly Highway State School and has a current enrolment of 20 students.

Our vision is 'Every day, in every classroom, every child is learning.'
